Many of the EU-LIFE Houting project sites will be visited on excursions during the conference.

Monday we will visit the River Vidå. The river runs through Tønder itself and the excursion sites will be within a very short distance from the conference centre. We will see the 100 ha new wet lands and the new by pass at the old water mill in Tønder.

During the Monday afternoon ‘leisure’ excursion you will get a chance to visit the marsh lands either in a canoe, on a bike or on a walk. We might be lucky enough to experience the very spectacular phenomenon called Black Sun (Sort Sol) where up to a million starlings gather from all corners to join in incredible flying formations.

Tuesday the excursion will go to another EU-LIFE project which has restored the raised bog Draved.

After that we will go to the Wadden Sea.

Wednesday the excursion takes us to the northern houting project sites at Rivers Sneum and Varde.

The projects in River Sneum have primarily created free passage within the river.

The River Varde project is the largest of the houting projects, remeandering more than 20 km of the river and dismantling two major obstacles.

The excursion (and conference) is expected to finish at the River Varde around 16.30 o’clock. The excursion bus will thereafter drive back to Tønder.
