Gelsbro Fish Farm

Gelsbro Fish Farm are situated in the River Gelså, which with the confluence the River Fladså begins the River Ribe Å.

The present weir at Gelsbro Fish Farm, supplying water for the fish farm production, blocks the free migration of most fish species in River Gelså.

The fish farm’s water abstraction permit is foreseen to be significantly reduced, and more water allowed in the natural river section bypassing the fish farm.

The 0.75 m high weir taking water into the fish farm will be reconstructed and the difference in water levels will be equalised by opening and reconstructing approx. 900 m of the former watercourse present before the fish farm was founded.

With the project the hydrological continuity on the site will be restored , whereby houting and other fish species will gain access to 11 km upstream watercourse.
